Awesome Product and Quality
Both films are deeply steeped in the golden era of kung fu movies and have to be judged in that context.Showdown in Little Tokyo is probably the funniest, unintentionally homoerotic action film ever made (though it maybe the only one in that category). Its two heroes (?), police officers played by Dolph Lundgren and Brandon Lee, make their bloody way thru LA's criminal element in a fashion that today would earn them multiple consecutive life sentences (or at least cost them their police pension...). However, somehow, inexplicably, they manage to stay under the radar: no police boss ever appears to order them to put the safety back on and explain why the coroner had to cancel her vacation. And so, while working feverishly to rid LA of the Yakuza, our heroes have time to save a damzel in distress, and utter some of the best one liners ever heard in an unintentionally homoerotic action film (I will NOT spoil your fun here; watch the film to find out what they are).Bloodsport on the other hand is a bit slower in pace, but packs an equal dose of punches. It features the Little Belgian (no, not Poirot...the other one! Van Damme!). It should be seen, if only for Van Damme's gravity defying leg split, which instantly earns him the respect of every male viewer...In the film, Van Damme's character honors his master by taking place of his dead son in a secret tournament, and the women wear illegal amounts of Aquanet...If you are still uncertain if this double pack is worth your investment, please consider this:As a teenager in the 80's, I was peeved at Hollywood for objectifying women's bodies, while leaving their leading men fully clothed. However, after watching Lundgren's and Van Damme's frequent, enthusiastic and spectacular ...er... rear asset displays, I felt vindicated...If only for that, they both disserve an honorable place in the annals of moviedom! So, support their...ahem...art!?
Having both DVDs in one set is awesome both great movies
Nothing is obvious on the packaging but the details do bear out that Showdown in Little Tokyo is FULLSCREEN. I know it was made during an era where both platforms were options but why would you package a widescreen AND a fullscreen together? Why not find a widescreen copy of both? Only knocking a star since i still love both movies, just feel its weird to make that decision.
Before Jean-Claude Van Damme & Dolph Lundgren stars together in "Universal Soldier", they were in different paths in action movies. These two cult martial arts films will show you why Van Damme & Lundgren are the best in the world. First in "Showdown in Little Tokyo" (1991), Lundgren plays a cop with samurai & martial arts skills, partnered up with a Valley cop (played by Bruce Lee's son & Shannon Lee's brother Brandon Lee) with martial arts skills & wisecracking humor, to save the damsel in distress (Tia Carrere in her pre-Relic Hunter role) from the Yakuza. Then in "Bloodsport" (1988), Van Damme, in his star-making role, played Frank Dux ----- the first Westerner to win the Kumite.Great martial arts flicks!
Great movie and fast shipping great price
Whether you like action packed movies or not, you've probably heard of Van Damme. If you haven't then this would be a good time to catch up on establishing an American dream. If you already have a dream, study the steps of how an immigrant like Van Damme set the foundation for Hollywood.
I love love love love love bloodsport!!! I remember when it first came out we got it and my dad and I watched this alllllll the time!! Now I get to watch it with my kids!!! Thanks!!
schade das blootsport englisch ist aber ist trotzdem gut showdow konnte ich mit altem dvd player nicht gugen habe neues dvd blueray gerät gekauft
Showdown in Little Tokyo is kind of lame but it's still a good corny marital arts film, Blood Sport is amazing. So happy with my purchase.
I was supposed to get 2 dvds but only received 1
These are two undemanding martial arts action films both feature paper thin weak story lines but have plenty of action to recommend. Although one is much better than the other one, firstly Showdown in Little Tokoyo a film which features some good action sequences but is let down by a weak storyline, crass wooden dialogue but is so bad it's good. Ironically this is listed incorrectly on amazon as the version of the film is in fullscreen. Bloodsport on the other is presented in widescreen & features spectacular action from Van Damme in his first starring role. Like Showdown the story is pretty weak but the fight sequences are spectacularly staged. Both films are guilty pleasures if your looking for undemanding films you can switch off too. DVD treatment for both films is rubbish as there is lot of grain in the picture which looks like it has been imported from VHS. Though if you can overlook all this it should be an evening of undemanding entertainment.
C'est dommage car Showdown in the little tokyo n'est pas en français.
